How Often Should You Update Your Headshot?

Sometimes, it’s obvious that it’s time to update your headshot. Maybe you’re a woman still using a photo with a hairstyle you haven’t worn since the pandemic. Or you’re a man, and your headshot was taken before you grew that goatee.

Your headshot on LinkedIn, your website, or in promotional materials should reflect who you are today, not who you were several years ago. A good headshot helps answer the question: Can I trust this person?”

It’s the first impression someone has of you—make it count.

The Two-Year Rule

Generally, I recommend updating your headshot every two years. Your headshot is part of your personal and professional brand, and keeping it fresh helps keep your brand current.

A new headshot also gives you the opportunity to fix anything that didn’t quite work in your old one—maybe the pose felt awkward or the lighting didn’t flatter you. A refresh gives me the chance to capture the exact look and feel you want to project.

Your Headshot Should Reflect Confidence

There are two types of people when it comes to headshots:

1. People who enjoy having their photo taken—relaxed, open to posing suggestions, and eager to see the results.
2. People who would rather have a root canal than step in front of a camera.

Both kinds of people come to me. My job is to help you relax, loosen up, and capture a portrait that shows the real, confident you—regardless of how you feel about having your photo taken.

Whether you’ve received a promotion, made a career change, or launched a new business, your headshot should reflect that confidence.

It's Time - And You Know It

Take a look at your current headshot. Does it still look like you? Does it still represent who you are and where you’re headed?

If you know it could be better, let’s talk.

When I take a headshot, I assess your features and determine the best lighting and poses to highlight your strengths. I might tell bad jokes or offer genuine compliments—whatever it takes to help you relax and enjoy the process.

Let’s create a headshot that feels like you —only better.
